Henri-Edmond Cross: A Pioneer of Neo-Impressionism
Exploring Cross's Artistic Journey and Influences
Henri-Edmond Cross, born in 1856, emerged as a significant figure in the Neo-Impressionist movement. His artistic journey began in Paris, where he was influenced by the vibrant colors and innovative techniques of his contemporaries. Cross was deeply inspired by the works of Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, who championed the use of color theory and pointillism. His travels along the French coast and to the Mediterranean also shaped his artistic vision, allowing him to capture the beauty of nature in his paintings.Understanding the Neo-Impressionist Movement
Neo-Impressionism, which flourished in the late 19th century, emphasized the scientific approach to color and light. Artists like Cross sought to create harmony through the use of small, distinct dots of color. This technique allowed for a vibrant interplay of light and shadow, giving life to landscapes and seascapes. Cross's work, including The Choppy Sea, exemplifies this movement's commitment to capturing the essence of nature through innovative methods. The Choppy Sea: A Masterpiece of Color and Emotion
Analyzing the Color Palette: Blues, Greens, and Beyond
In The Choppy Sea, Cross employs a stunning palette dominated by deep blues and vibrant greens. These colors evoke the tumultuous nature of the sea, reflecting both its beauty and its chaos. The interplay of light and shadow creates a dynamic visual experience, drawing viewers into the scene. The use of complementary colors enhances the emotional impact, making the waves appear alive and in constant motion.Brushwork Techniques: Dots, Strokes, and Texture
Cross's signature brushwork is evident in The Choppy Sea. He skillfully combines short, deliberate strokes with the pointillist technique, creating a textured surface that captures the movement of water. This method allows the viewer to experience the painting differently from various angles, as the colors blend and shift. The texture adds depth, making the waves seem to crash and swirl with energy.Emotional Resonance: Capturing the Turbulence of Nature
The Choppy Sea resonates with emotional intensity. Cross captures the raw power of nature, inviting viewers to feel the energy of the waves. The painting reflects a moment of chaos, yet there is an underlying sense of beauty. This duality speaks to the viewer's soul, evoking feelings of awe and respect for the natural world.Symbolism and Themes in The Choppy Sea

Smells great. Tough to remove.
Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
The smell is great and very nostalgic, but it has a sticky/tacky feel on the skin. It's hard to get off even with a lot of scrubbing with soap and hot water. They weren't joking that it stays on through water and sweat.

A TERRIFIC FIND FOR US IN ECUADOR
Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Here in Ecuador, this product isn't even available to us. I have the most precious 20 month old girl living with us and of course I wanted to get a quality product at less cost. This fits the bill. With an SPF 100 rating from a decades old and trusted manufacturer and a price that is less than one third of what I would have to pay for any sort of water resistant equivalent, this was a no brainer.
If you buy this product, please read the instructions and follow them. It is a spray product that great care should be used to avoid spraying directly on the face--------- either your own or the child's. Spray it on your hand and apply it to any face that needs it. It's convenient for neck, shoulders, backs and legs due to its spray delivery.
Our little 20 month old must be part fish because she loves the thermal pools we take her to and this product seems quite durable

SPF 100 FTW
Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I find it very important to have strong sunscreen. Thankfully I found this with 100 SPF. So glad plus I’m happy that I found it in spray because it’s so much easier to apply the kids and then I just have them rub it in. It also makes reapplying so much easier because just start spraying and have them turn around and around that you’re good to go.

Not eczema skin friendly
Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 1), Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Since I didn’t remember which sunblock spray I had previously purchased (that was super awesome), I got this one with a few other ‘kid’ sunblock spray and stick. I had grabbed this one for a splash pad birthday party this weekend only to find out it’s messy and not eczema skin friendly. Either we got a defective bottle or it’s just the way it sprays: runny goops of sunscreen that takes awhile to dry properly (see photo). And when it dries it really does stick onto your skin as advertised (aka not breathable, pore clogging, will irritate sensitive/eczema prone skin). My youngest has eczema prone skin (that’s been flare up free for 3 years) had a severe break out on her arms after using this. And even for the sake of photo demonstration for this post my own sensitive skin got red/irritated.
So does it stick-yup. Is it messy? Definitely. Easy to apply? No (your kiddos have to stay put until it dries). Did it provide sun protection? Maybe…? Sensitive skin friendly? No. Eczema skin approved? Definitely not. Recommended? Nope. We threw it away and requested a refund.

GREAT FOR ADULTS TOO!
Style: Kids SPF 50, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This isn't just a great sunscreen for kids, it also works great for adults too. I've used this on my face under my makeup for years and it doesn't make me break out. I've tested many facial sunscreens and none of them go on as smoothly as this one. A lot of them aren't moist enough to spread out on the skin, but this one is very moist and I don't need to use a lot of it for coverage. Facial sunscreens can be pricey, but this Kids Sunscreen is under $10 and is a great value. It has a subtle, delicate scent and that's another plus for me. When it's on my face, I don't notice it. I avoid overpowering scents in all my facial products.
