Smith & Nephew Iodosorb Cadexomer Iodine Gel — Kills MRSA, Desloughs & Color-Changes, 2 Sizes

A single gel that simultaneously kills bacteria, removes slough and biofilm, absorbs exudate, and tells you exactly when it needs changing. Smith & Nephew Iodosorb is a sterile 0.9% cadexomer iodine antimicrobial wound gel — the tube-delivery format of the same clinically proven cadexomer iodine technology used in Iodoflex pads — designed for applying directly into wound cavities, irregularly shaped wounds, and wound areas where a pad dressing cannot achieve full contact with the wound base. When applied, Iodosorb absorbs exudate, slough, pus, and debris into its unique cadexomer matrix at a rate of up to 7 times its own weight — releasing iodine in a sustained, controlled manner as it absorbs, providing broad-spectrum bactericidal activity for up to 72 hours per application. The cadexomer matrix has been shown to physically disrupt mature biofilm — absorbing it into the dressing and reducing bacterial load within the biofilm — a critical differentiator for chronic wounds stalled by biofilm. As the iodine is progressively consumed, Iodosorb changes color from its characteristic brown to white — a clear, unambiguous visual indicator that tells clinicians and caregivers precisely when it is time to change the dressing, eliminating guesswork and supporting consistent treatment intervals.

✔ 0.9% Cadexomer Iodine — Broad-Spectrum Bactericidal Activity Up to 72 Hours    ✔ Kills MRSA (103 Isolates) & P. aeruginosa (101 Strains) — Proven In Vitro    ✔ Physically Disrupts Mature Biofilm — Absorbs Biofilm Into the Matrix    ✔ Absorbs Up to 7x Its Weight — Manages Exudate While Desloughing    ✔ Brown to White Color Change — Built-In Indicator of When to Change

Indicated For — Wound Types

  • Venous stasis ulcers — wet, exuding, and infected
  • Pressure sores and pressure injuries — all stages with exudate
  • Diabetic foot ulcers — infected or heavily colonized
  • Infected traumatic wounds
  • Infected surgical wounds
  • Chronic exuding wounds with slough, pus, debris, or biofilm
  • Wounds with confirmed or suspected MRSA or Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection
  • Any wet wound requiring simultaneous antimicrobial activity, desloughing, and exudate management
  • Irregularly shaped wounds and cavity wounds where a pad dressing cannot achieve full contact

Important Contraindications: Do not use on dry wounds — Iodosorb is not effective when there is insufficient exudate to activate the cadexomer matrix. Not for use in patients with known or suspected iodine sensitivity, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Grave's Disease, or non-toxic nodular goiter. Not for use by pregnant or lactating women. Not for use in children 14 years and under. Use with caution in patients with severely impaired renal function or history of thyroid disorder. Do not use continuously for more than 3 months. Potential interaction with lithium — increased risk of hypothyroidism. Do not use concomitantly with mercurial antiseptics or taurolidine.

How Iodosorb Works — What Makes It Different

Standard antimicrobial wound gels — silver gels, honey gels, standard iodine solutions — deliver antimicrobial activity but typically do not address slough removal or biofilm disruption simultaneously. Iodosorb's cadexomer matrix technology addresses all three in a single application. The cadexomer beads swell on contact with wound exudate — physically absorbing slough, pus, debris, and biofilm into the gel matrix, removing them from the wound surface through the mechanical action of absorption rather than requiring manual debridement. As the beads absorb, iodine is released at a controlled, sustained concentration — bactericidal without the cytotoxic spike of free iodine solutions — maintaining effective antimicrobial activity for up to 72 hours. The gel formed over the wound surface creates a moist environment that supports autolytic debridement and granulation tissue formation. As the cadexomer iodine is progressively consumed, the gel transitions from brown to white — a reliable visual indicator that confirms the active period has ended and a fresh application is needed, standardizing change intervals across clinical teams and home care settings.

  • Cadexomer matrix physically absorbs slough, pus, debris, and biofilm — active wound bed preparation with each application
  • 0.9% iodine released in sustained, controlled low doses — broad-spectrum bactericidal activity up to 72 hours
  • Physically disrupts mature biofilm — absorbs biofilm into the matrix and reduces bacterial load within it
  • Bactericidal against MRSA (103 isolates) and P. aeruginosa (101 strains) proven in vitro
  • Each gram absorbs approximately 3ml of fluid — up to 7 times its own weight in exudate total
  • Gel formation over wound surface — maintains moist healing environment and supports autolytic debridement
  • Color change from brown to white — unambiguous visual signal that iodine is spent and dressing change is due
  • Non-adherent — does not bond to wound surface, reduces trauma and encourages patient compliance
  • Tube delivery — applies directly into wound cavities, tunnels, and irregular wound shapes
  • Reduces wound odor through antimicrobial action against odor-causing organisms
  • Biodegradable formulation — no residue concerns

Iodosorb Gel vs. Iodoflex Pad — Same Technology, Different Format

Iodosorb Gel and Iodoflex Pad both use the same 0.9% cadexomer iodine formulation from Smith & Nephew — the clinical difference is in delivery format and the wound types each best serves.

Choose Iodosorb Gel When: Choose Iodoflex Pad When:
Wound is irregularly shaped or has a cavity that a pad cannot fully contact Wound has a broad, accessible surface where a pad provides full contact
Clinician needs to apply into a tunnel, sinus, or undermined area Wound surface is flat or slightly contoured — pad conforms adequately
Precise dose control per application is needed — tube allows measured dispensing Pad format preferred — pre-sized, no dispensing required
Wound requires direct gel-to-wound-base contact for maximum cadexomer action Larger wound surface — 5g or 10g pad provides broader coverage per application

Choosing the Right Size

  • 6602124014 — 10g Tube — Smaller size — ideal for compact wounds, small ulcers, and single applications where precise dosing of a smaller amount is needed per change. Best for clinics and home care where multiple smaller wounds are being managed individually.
  • 6602125040 — 40g Tube — Larger size — the best value for medium-to-large wounds, wounds requiring more gel per application, or ongoing treatment where a single tube covers multiple dressing changes. Reduces per-application cost for extended wound management protocols.

Application Tips: Apply Iodosorb directly to the wound surface in a layer approximately 3mm deep. Cover with an appropriate absorbent secondary dressing. Change when the color indicator turns from brown to white/yellow-gray, or every 2–3 days as clinically indicated. Remove by gently rinsing with sterile saline or water — moisten if any material is tending to adhere before removal. Do not exceed 50g per single application or 150g per week.

Very versatile and durable dog toy
This is not a good toy to leave wit big dogs unattended. That being said it is a GREAT dog toy for households that have a variety size of dogs. Our Golden Retriever and 6 pound Pomeranian both play with it. Both retrieve it and occasionally share carrying it back to us. I know it will eventually get destroyed but that is what dog toys are for. Very durable and with the holes, it allows small dogs to pick it up as easily as larger dogs.

Keeps my dog busy
This works great for rolling treats up in fleece and putting them in the ball. The ball material is flexible and durable. This is a fun and engaging activity for when the weather prevents outside fun.

The best dog ball EVER!!!
Our 3 y.o. Mini Australian shepherd destroys every toy that she can. We can’t have any kind of cloth toys, including the heavy duty, triple stitched, fire hose Kong toys. We can’t have rope toys, even the balls. There are many rubber or silicone toys we also can’t have as she destroys them as well. She has 5 of these balls, some for over a year and they are still in GREAT shape. Left in the sun, rain, etc, they just hold up. They also don’t have a lot of surface area to hold slobber so your hand doesn’t get all wet. Heavy enough to still throw a fair distance, but light enough that the dog was fine the few times I’ve accidentally drilled her in the ass. These are the best.

The best dog ball!
I have bought about 8 of these balls now. Mostly because my dog looses his or I’m buying them for my other dog friends. I put a dog bone in it at dinner time and it keeps my dog occupied while I’m eating my dinner. He loves it and so do I! They also have different sizes. We recently got a bigger dog breed so I got the biggest one. He loves it as well! Worth every penny!
