Dingwall Combustion 2 Pick-ups - Indigo Burst Finish - 4 String - Bass

The Dingwall Combustion 2 Pick-ups in Indigo Burst Finish is a high-quality 4-string electric bass guitar from the Combustion Series. With a solid swamp ash body, maple fretboard, and 24 frets, this bass guitar delivers excellent tone and playability. It comes with a strap, tuner, and gig bag, making it a complete package for bass players. Handcrafted in Canada, this bass guitar is perfect for right-handed musicians looking for a reliable and stylish instrument for their musical journey.

Canadian luthier Sheldon Dingwall has been building amazing instruments since the early 90's and he was a true pioneer as he incorporated the Multiscale or Fanned Fret System that had been developed by Ralph Novak and that meant that every string on the instrument should have a different length depending on the pitch it should give when played open. The fact that every string has a different length of course means that the frets have to be installed in a "fanned" manner, hence the name.

Even if these basses look modern and rad, they are based on the same principle of old harps and pianos. The strings on a grand piano or harp vary in length depending on the note. This means that the lower the note, the longer the string must be. Even upright pianos feature a harp with different string lengths. The result of this is that the harmonic series from the strings is larger and the tone is therefore fuller. Pure physics.

This whole new series is made in China but use a lot of American and European components and this has allowed Dingwall to create some instruments with their trademark tone and performance at extremely affordable prices. Final set up and inspection is done in the Dingwall shop in Canada so you know the basses will play great right out of the box. Fortunately for you, no adjustment is needed to play this instrument. Actually they feel really easy to play and ergonomic. Your left hand simply falls into the notes without having to make any change in technique at all.  This model was made in Canada -

This is the Combustion model and it features a swamp ash body and 5 piece maple neck with maple fretboard plus some cool extras such as the EMG 3 band preamp Plus Gorgeous Indigo Burst finish over a cool quilted maple top. Simply irresistible!

This instrument features 2 Dingwall FD-3N pickups with neodymium magnets that are powerful and smooth but with aggressive tone at the same time. They are completely noise free so they will behave just great both on stage and in the studio. The smart rotary switch offers 4 possibilities: Bridge Pickup Both pickups in Parallel Both pickups in Series Neck Pickup

Speaking of which, we find that this bass actually sounds very different in Passive and Active Modes and that's good news. The raw sound of these pickups in Passive mode is actually slightly mid-range and this works great if you really need to cut through the band.

Also if you use some sort of external Overdrive or Distortion unit, this will work incredibly well with the bass in Passive mode. Switch to active and you get a completely different bass. Just add a touch of bass boost and cut the mids slightly and you get a much rounder and modern sounding bass that will be perfect for pop, funk and more. Cool.

Multiscale design means that you get the right tension in all 4 strings so you can attack the 4th string properly and it will handle that beautifully. There's an evenness of tone and volume from string to string that is simply perfect. Compared to extra long scale basses (35" or 36"), the first and second string sound fuller and not as harsh just because string length here is correct. We love that.

This bass comes with standard EADG tuning but of course it is a great candidate for alternate tunings (using the right strings) such as DADG, BEAD, CFBbEb, etc.
Bass and studio ace Lee Sklar suggested the use of small banjo type frets as these offer a less metallic tone and smoother glissandos/faster feel than jumbo frets.

Individual bridges and lightweight open tuners complete this beautiful bass.

Shockingly Good

If you’re like me (cheap), shopping for silverware is painful because it is either ridiculously overpriced or affordable yet garbage. I’m quite pleased to report that this set is very decent quality and is a fantastic value for the price, the pieces all have a little bit of weight to them, so they do not feel cheap in your hand, yet they are not these bloated, Henry the eighth hammers that are uncomfortably heavy. They are well balanced and seem to be durable..

Arrived whole
Style: Tree Pattern, Style: Tree Pattern
I noticed several posts where the holder was cracked and damaged. mine arrived fine but it came inside a larger box due to other items arriving with it so not sure it that helped, for future buyers. We've been remodeling our kitchen for over 1yr and a half. Most of the items I have were passed down when my mother passed. The silverware I had didn't match and it drove me nuts. I finally was at the point I could afford to replace all of it. So tossed it all out when these arrived. These are nice looking, very strong and feel of good quality. I picked the hammered look and black since the colors in the kitchen are steel, black appliances and the cabinets are a blue with marble counter. We bought marble dishes and wanted something other than steel silverware. Though the black, at a glance looks like plastic silverware due to how shiny they are. But I am happy. #1 thing that sold me were the steak knives. Serrated knives in set like these are usually just four. The teeth on these are sharp and when I used one on a cold cooked chicken breasts it cut through nicely and shredded it fine without issue. Most sets are usually just four of everything. I have family members every who come over every so often and we would like to host friends once in a while as well. So we needed more than four which at times is hard to come by. I also wash my dishes by hand. I haven't used a dishwasher in 22 yrs, so when remodeling I didn't waste money buying one. So far with washing these by hand, I have had no issue. No rust or odd spotting and no coloring chipped. So would likely suggest washing these by hand if others have issues with them in the dishwasher. For the price, the quality and the quantity, that alone is a steal for me. I didn't care if the holder arrived broken or not. Even if it didn't have the holder I would pay the same and buy this set.
